Written by Safia on | No Comments

Here’s your second installment of our popular “Did You Know” series.  Our aim is to provide you with all the tools you need to measure and optimize your customer economics – from acquisition, to retention to monetization. Hopefully, this series helps you to accomplish your goals.

Of course, your dedicated account manager and our team of data scientists are available anytime to help you to translate your data into actionable insights.

Custom Event Tracking and Funnel Creation
Gain visibility into in-app events that will provide insights into your users’ behavior. Cohort analysis, or analyzing groups of users that share common similar characteristics or behaviors, is often the cornerstone strategy of many successful data-driven companies.

DID YOU KNOW?
You can use custom events to:

  • Create specific in-app events that measure actions unique to your application.
  • Analyze custom actions on a timeline, aggregate or custom chart.
  • Look at grouped bundles of similar events in a specified category.
  • A/B test different behaviors of cohorts.

Check out some best practices below, and contact your account manager to find out more about how instrumenting and measuring custom events can help your teams use data to drive higher ROI:

Marketers:

  • Gauge user quality by measuring post-install engagement events by demographic.
  • Measure how long it takes for an important first-engagement or first-monetization events to be triggered in the application by demographic.
  • Use funnels to tie in-app engagement and monetization events back to original marketing channels.
  • A/B Test →
    • Engagement rates by marketing channel.
    • Purchase and monetization rates by marketing channel.

Developers / Producers:

  • Measure how many people who complete a certain engagement event go on to make a purchase.
  • Gain visibility into what actions your users undertake earlier in your application versus later.
  • Monitor in-app errors that could affect the overall performance of your application.
  • A/B Test →
    • The most popular item categories and individual items in your virtual store.
    • The most popular items purchased or used versus the highest grossing items to maximize revenue by game level, or over time.

All:

  • Monitor key aggregated trends around in-app engagement or purchase events critical to the loyalty and monetization of your user base.
  • Monitor the overall balance of your virtual economy.

Kontagent Konnect: Tech Talk Series on Analytics in the Social and Mobile Web

Written by Aaron H. on | No Comments

We kicked off our inaugural Tech Talk series, Kontagent Konnect, last Wednesday at 111 Minna. The panel topic focused on Big Data in the social and mobile analytics space, and featured our CEO Jeff Tseng, CSO Josh Williams and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Battery Ventures, Todd Papaioannou.

Due to requests, we’re posting a video of the entire panel event for those of you who could not attend or are interested in the topic.

Key takeaways:

  • Big Data is a marketing buzzword – find out what it means and why the industry needs a new term to define this burgeoning market
  • The future is data science – and the skills to sequester, analyze and provide meaningful insights to decision makers through sharp business acumen is only going to be more in-demand as companies struggle with ‘finding that needle in a haystack’ and acting on real-time data
  • LTV modeling is crucial in developing an accurate picture of your business performance. Industry-wide models are extremely complex because each company has their own factors that go into analyzing user behavior.
  • From social to mobile – developers want to be where their users are. Key metrics that are platform agnostic but fundamentally user-centric are highlighted.

Great turnout, and we’re looking forward to our next event soon in our new office space! Any requests on topics next? Drop us a line!
