Kontagent SAMS Tracking Over 10,000 Real-Time Events a Second

We’re happy to announce our new “Real-Time Social Application Monitoring System”, which has seen tens of thousands of incoming event messages every second. This is a great leap forward for social application developers, who can use SAMS to instantly monitor user activity for insight, as well as for detecting technical issues. Check out our coverage on Techcrunch, VentureBeat, and InsideFacebook. We hope this system makes it easier for developers to quickly gain access to the information they need.

San Francisco, California, Febuary 28th, 2011 – Kontagent, a Facebook-funded San Francisco-based social analytics company, announced today the release of a revolutionary Real-Time Social Application Monitoring System (SAMS).

For the first time ever, social application developers can gain real-time insights into the behavior and activities of their social applications.  The system also assists developers in detecting operational issues with their social applications with unprecedented speed, often even more quickly than their traditional internal monitoring systems.  SAMS is already used by many top social application developers in its beta period, and is regularly processing 10,000 social events per second and quickly growing to tens of thousands a second.  To put this in context, the highest number of messages sent per second ever on twitter was under 7,000.

Because Kontagent’s social-tags live inside the social applications and web services, real-time monitoring of measured actions makes it possible to monitor social behaviors and also detect technical problems with code release errors or system issues almost instantly. With this new real-time visibility, Kontagent’s SAMS dashboard significantly lowers the risk associated with deploying new features releases and updates.

“As an agile social gaming company, we need to release multiple times a week, and sometimes even multiple times a day, but we have game experiences and 3rd party integrations, that while critical, can be quite fragile,” said Ali Nazer, cofounder of Lionside, a social game company that recently launched NBA Legends, the first NBA licensed game on Facebook. He believes Kontagent’s SAMS represents a critical tool in launching social apps: “The real-time dashboard that Kontagent provides is an extremely valuable addition since it lets us monitor user stats right after our releases. It also lets us monitor our Facebook platform integration when we are triaging issues with our game.”

“We’re excited about the adoption and early feedback of the Kontagent Social Application Monitoring System. This expands our platform from providing just social application analytics to social application systems monitoring,” says Albert Lai, co-founder and President of Kontagent.  Furthermore, Albert believes that “SAMS is a critical feature for our customers due to the iterative and fast-paced launch schedules that our customers have. By enabling them to have real-time social behavior hearbeat monitoring within the application, we allow social application developers to move more quickly by providing them a higher level of confidence in deploying new releases more rapidly.”

The boom in the success of the social application and games market and proliferation of social application developers has also made demands on Kontagent’s analytics services skyrocket.  The company is hiring aggressively for their San Francisco and Toronto offices. It has tripled its head count in 2010 and is seeking to grow at an even faster pace in 2011.
